Busy weeks full of cramming for finals, holiday parties, and making last-minute winter break plans can lead to snooze button abuse and no time for hair washing and blow drying. Skipping shampoo a few times a week leads to healthier strands, but it can also leave your hair looking a little flat or greasy after a day or two. Enter: The braided bun on top look. It’s a super pretty way to disguise day-old hair, and it’s ridiculously easy to recreate. Check out the step by step below.
Before getting too excited that the look is super easy to recreate, make sure you follow the steps and do exactly as they tell you to do. This will ensure that you end up with a fabulous braided bun on top effect in no time!
Step 1: Grab the crown section of your hair and gently pull it towards the back.
Step 2: Then, start braiding this particular section into a traditional Dutch-style braid. To do this, divide your hair into three strands. Then, cross the right strand under the centre strand and then cross the left strand under the centre strand. After one stitch, begin incorporating new hair pieces into the braid. Following the same technique, continue braiding and adding more hair to your braid by picking up small strands every time you cross each section.
Step 3: Take a small rubber band and secure the braid. As you can see, you don’t braid the entire section of hair for this particular tutorial.
Step 4: With your braid secured in place, gently twist the end around itself.
Step 5: Take the twist and carefully wrap it around to form a bun.
Step 6: With this being said, now is the time to pin the coiled bun in place. For this purpose, make sure you use high quality bobby pins only to ensure that the bun won’t fall down as soon as you leave the house.
