Sweet and Healthy Recipes with Oatmeal and Honey

 

There are a lot of people who think that sweet foods are not only caloric, but bad for their health as well. And thus they simply avoid eating them, especially if they are on a diet.

However, just because a kind of food is sweet, it does not mean it is not a healthy one. It is true that it may contain a lot of calories, but the ingredients in it could be healthy ones. And to prove you this, we have prepared 2 sweet and healthy desert recipes.

Dark chocolate energy bars

The first recipe is for those of you who like eating energy bars before or after going to the gym. In fact, these homemade energy bars are quite easy to make if you have the needed products. And it would even be cheaper than buying ready-made energy bars. Here is what you need to do:

Ingredients:

1 cup of puffed rice
½ cup of oats
1 1/3 cup of roasted almonds
½ cup of pumpkin seeds
½ cup of dried apricots
½ cup of honey
1/3 cup of corn syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 bar of melted dark chocolate

Directions:

Step 1

First, you need to get a big bowl and to mix in it the rice, the oats, the pumpkin seeds, the apricot and the roasted almonds. Mix them all together with a spoon and then leave them aside for a couple of minutes.

Step 2

Now you need to get a small pot and to pour in it the honey and the corn syrup. Heat the mixture to 125 0C. Once the mixture starts boiling add the vanilla and mix the ingredients. Get the pot off the hot plate.

Step 3

Now pour the heated mixture over the rest of the ingredients in the bowl and again use the spoon to mix them well. Be careful while stirring because it will be a bit difficult and sticky.

Step 4

One you mix them as much as you can, get a baking tin and put some baking paper on top of it. Pour the mixture in the tin and spread it equally. After that put the mixture in the fridge for half an hour.

When the time is up, get it out of the fridge and pour the melted dark chocolate on top in lines. This ingredient is optional as well. Then put the mixture back in the fridge for another half an hour. And after that the energy bar will be ready. All that is left for you to do is to cut it into small bars.

Protein bars

Ingredients:

2/3 cup of peanut butter
1 cup of oats
1 ½ tablespoon of honey
¼ cup of chocolate chips
¼ cup of flax seeds
some oats and chocolate chips for decoration

Directions:

Step 1

The first thing you need to do once you decide to make the recipe is to get the ingredients and a big bowl where to mix them. Mix the peanut butter with the oats and the honey. Then add the chocolate chips and the flax seeds.

Step 2

Now mix them all well and you will get a thick and a little bit sticky mixture. Use a big spoon to mix them all well. Take your time and once you see the ingredients are well mixed you can move on to the next step.

Step 3

Now you need to get some foil and to cover the bowl with it. Put the bowl in the fridge for half an hour. This way the mixture will chill and will become thicker and not that sticky.

Once the time is up, get the mixture out of the fridge and get a spoon. Get a spoonful of the mixture and make a ball of it. Then roll the ball into the oats and chocolate chips you will use for decoration.

You will not need that much of them. Do the same with the rest of the mixture. If you prefer you can make it into square balls, or some other shape to your taste. And once you do this, your bars are ready.
