Sleek, Gorgeous Bun Tutorial

Sleek, Gorgeous Bun Tutorial

Who doesn’t love the high sleek bun? It’s a look that is not too hard to achieve, but for some reason, it never quite looks the same at home as it does when it is done by a pro. Most of the tips are pretty obvious: you blow-dry your hair, run some dry oil through it, pull it up to the centre of your head, and then meticulously brush through the top layer until it is all smooth as glass. Yet sometimes you have to know a trick or two. We’ll show you the steps to achieve the desired bun look. And if you can’t figure out a way to smooth down those pesky hairs that stick out from the top of your bun, we have a solution to that too.

Step 1: After prepping the hair with dry oil, brush it nicely towards the back.

Step 2: For this style, gather all your hair into a high ponytail and confine it neatly in a holder or elastic band at the back of your head. Use your hair elastic or hair bungee and wrap around the ponytail to secure it firmly in place. Hold the ponytail in place with one hand, brushing out any bumps with the other hand to ensure a smooth, sleek ponytail. Once you’ve placed the ponytail, prepare it by teasing it a little at the base. To do this, simply hold the ponytail with one hand and the comb with the other. Apply firm brush strokes downward to the base. Repeat the procedure with the next small sections of hair until you are satisfied with the final result.

Step 3: Slide the sock or donut inside the ponytail.

Step 4: Start wrapping the ponytail around the sock to form the bun.

Step 5: Hold the end of your ponytail with one hand and carefully twist and roll it around its base. As shown on the picture, make sure your hair is getting neatly rolled into a roundly shaped donut.

Step 6: When you have twisted all your hair into a bun, tuck the ends of your ponytail beneath the bun and secure with bobby pins. Depending on the length and thickness of your hair, you will need to use at least five, six bobby pins to keep the bun in place.

Step 7: Then, you may pull out some strands of hair here and there to give it a messy appearance, or leave it neat and tidy as it is.

Step 8: Apply firm-hold hairspray all over. As an option, if you are keen on a really shiny, high-end finish, there is a number of finishing gloss sprays that not only add shine but also help tame flyaways and baby hairs.
