My favourite decade in history is the 1950s. It was a time of celebration after the war years, when new fashions and beauty styles flourished. This was the era where women were aiming for perfectly styled, voluminous hair. Because of the war and fabric rationing, many women relied on their hair to make a statement. Among all hairstyles of this time, the most cherished of all hairstyles was the one – the vintage victory rolls. The fun fact is that you can recreate the hairstyle in less than 5 minutes no matter how long your hair is – and all you’ll need is a comb, two bobby pins and a curling iron!
Step 1: Brush your hair nicely to remove any knots or tangles.
Step 2: Separate your hair as indicated in the picture – two sections in front and the rest of your hair at the back.
Step 3: Secure the two front sections separately with a bobby pin. This way you can deal with one at a time.
Step 4: Remove the bobby pin from one of the sections and comb it again. Use your brush under the new section to give texture to the hair nearest to your crown. If the front ends up a little messy, just brush it out.
Step 5: Grab your curling iron and wrap the section around it. Curl inwards towards the face.
Step 6: Secure the roll with a bobby pin and spray with a light hold hairspray.
Step 7: Curl the ends of your hair for a vintage look.
Step 8: Remove the bobby pin from the second clipped section.
Step 9: Curl the section again, pin and spray.
Step 10: Now curl the back sections for a vintage effect. That’s it! Your victory rolls hairstyle is ready! You can use hairspray to secure your new vintage look but it should hold all on its own and last as long as you do. If you are feeling extra creative, why not use a hair doughnut to create your low chignon bun at the back for extra vintage look!
