How to Fake a Blowout At Home

Confession time: if you have naturally wavy hair, we envy you. Getting luscious, wavy locks can be hard to achieve if you’ve been born with pin-straight hair. But don’t worry, there are some easy tricks you can try to fake a blowout at home! The end result is fabulous shiny wavy hair with volume!

Trick #1: Use hair rollers to cheat a salon blow-dry.

Before getting started, brush your locks through to ensure they’re smooth and free from tangles. Add a little leave-in conditioner on your ends and lengths of your hair. You can also invest in a special curl tousling spray to maximize volume and waves. Then, spray your dry hair with water until it is moist enough. Grab your magnetic rollers. If you don’t have a pack of rollers of your own, you’ll need to take a trip to your local drug store or beauty shop to pick some up. Now, carefully roll the small layers of your hair on each side of your head. While your hair is still moist, continue adding new rollers to your hair to the tops sections. Roll the entire back of the hair down parallel to the floor. Spray your hair with more water if needed. If you want to achieve volume rather than curls, pin the top section of your hair on top of your head and leave it as it is. However, if you want to create curls, simply twist this section around itself to create a large, uniform, clockwise pin curl. Allow your hair to dry completely before releasing the curls. Then, gently remove the back rollers out and carefully brush the hair down and out to flip the hair out. Use your comb to gently combine the various segments of hair together. You can also use your fingers to merge segments back together. As a final step, shake your hair and apply some hairspray all over your hairstyle to keep your waves in place longer.

Trick #2: Try the ponytail curling trick.

Start with your hair nicely brushed to remove any knots or tangles. Since you are about to use a heat styling tool, it is very important to add a heat protection spray. This way your hair will be protected from split ends, breakage, dryness and lack of luster. Gather your hair into a high ponytail on top of your head and secure it tightly with a rubber band. Do not focus on this part being perfect; just make sure you tighten it really good before proceeding to the next step. Divide the tail into several parts so it will be easier for you to add the curls. With your hair into a ponytail, take a 1″ curling iron and start curling the ends. Wrap a relatively large part of the tail around the barrel of the curling wand. Wait for a couple of minutes before releasing the curl. Before moving on to the next section, pin the curl in place, so it will set the curl. Repeat the process with the next section of your hair. When you finish curling the ends, remove all the clips and cut the elastic band used on the ponytail. To create soft, salon worthy waves, comb though the curls to break them slightly. You may even flip your head and run fingers through your hair. Take a light hold hairspray and spray your bouncy curls. Brush or shake out the curls. Now you have the perfect blowout in just a few minutes!

Trick #3: Use the cardboard tubes from the toilet paper.

Curling your hair with toilet paper may sound crazy but it really works! Your hair needs to be a bit moist for this trick to work. Gather all hair pieces into a high ponytail. Try to use a cheap elastic band you won’t mind using afterwards. Now separate a small section from the ponytail. If your hair is thick, you may use 1 inch sections so the toilet paper stays in place more effectively. Take a toilet paper or more precisely the cardboard tube from it, place it on your strand and slowly roll your hair over. If you want full curls from the top to bottom of your hair, you would roll the toilet paper all the way up to your scalp. Continue with another strand of hair, place a cardboard tube and start wrapping it towards the base of the ponytail. Take another cardboard tube and follow the same technique. Remember – the smaller sections you take the smaller curls you will make. When all your hair pieces are rolled, leave the cardboard tubes in your hair for at least 6 hours. Then, remove the tubes and cut the elastic band to release your beautiful curls. Now you have the perfect blowout at home! And all that, thanks to this crazy toilet paper trick!
