How to Dress Vintage

Vintage has been quite a popular fashion style recently. And it should be since the clothes are amazing. They are more or less a combination of modern and old fashion styles. However, there are a lot of women who try to dress vintage, but are not sure how to choose the right item, so they decide to play it safe and forget about vintage. Well, I have to completely disagree, because vintage style is too good to forget about it. And that we today we are going to share with you some tips about dressing vintage.

Try variety of vintage clothes

When some people hear “vintage”, they imagine a certain period from the past. For example, the 1950s when women stayed at home, did the cooking and looked after the children. In fact, vintage is not only a certain decade. It is rather a century – the 20th century. All fashion styles and trends that were popular from the 1900s to the 1980s (included) are considered nowadays to be vintage. I guess 1990s is too close to the 21st century and that is why it is not included in the list. Anyway, whatever style you choose from the abovementioned decades, it will be considered vintage. You can also combine more than one style. It depends on the ones you like best, but feel free to experiment.

Mix vintage with modern

This is an important rule when we talk about dressing vintage. It is never good to be wearing only vintage clothes at the same time, because this way you are going to look like you are wearing a costume. Even if most of your outfit is vintage, you should keep in mind that you still need to have something modern. It could be a coat, a bag, or your shoes, but it is essential to have at least one or two items that are not vintage. This way you will look much more stylish.

Start with jewelry and accessories

If you are not still feeling too bold to wear vintage outfits, start just with wearing vintage accessories. This way you will gradually gain the confidence to wear vintage clothes. There are some great jewelry and accessories you can try, including pocket watches as necklaces, some vintage clutch bags, like the ones your grandmother used to wear in her 20s, or some kind of hair accessories, like flowers and vintage hair combs, which women use to put in their hair as an accessory. In other words, there are a lot of items to choose from if you want to have some vintage twist in your outfit.

Experiment with style

If you want to dress vintage, it is important to know that you should not take things too seriously. After all, vintage styles are about having fun as well and not only looking gorgeous. So, if you like some particular pair of shoes, or some shirt, but you do not want to wear it, because you think you will look too silly in it, do not be. Be bold, because vintage is not for sissies.

Do not forget about layering

If layering is your type of fashion, then you would be glad that it is part of vintage style as well. Here is an example what how you can layer your outfit. Since it is still winter, we suggest you choose a long sweater to wear with either a skirt, or even a dress under it, that should be about 5 finger longer than the sweater. As a finishing touch to the layering you can add high boots, they could be even above the knee. And voila, now you would be definitely vintage!
