How to Avoid Getting the Flu this Winter

When fall comes and the weather gets cold all kind of bugs pop by to infect people with different kinds of flu and cold. It seems that people are almost used to it and they expect to get sick every winter. We, however, do not want to be ill, not even to escape from work for a week. It is better to be healthy and strong.

So, if you also do not want to get sick during the winter, you could try some of the ways to protect your body from the winter illnesses. We have prepared for you a list of things you could do to protect yourself from the flu this season. Check them out!

#1 Wash your hands

One of the most important things you need to do not only during the winter but also during any other season of the year is to wash your hands as soon as you come home or go to the office. No matter whether you realize it or not, your hands have plenty of microbes on them after you travel in the public transport or if you pay in cash, and so on.

Microbes are everywhere around you, so you need to make sure you do not touch your face or eat without washing your hands first. You can carry with you a tube of antibacterial gel and to use it when you do not have the opportunity to wash your hands with soap. Or you could also use wet wipes. It is one of the most important steps of protecting yourself from illnesses.

#2 Ventilate your home

The next thing that you need to make sure you do regularly is ventilating your home. This way you will “clean” the air in your home by letting some fresh one come in. Stuffy air is not very healthy.

Even if you cough a little in a room all the bacteria will stay in the room. That is why you need to open the windows regularly at home even when it is cold outside. And if you do this for no more than 15 minutes, it will be fine.

#3 Wash your scarf and gloves regularly

The next thing people do not pay much attention to is the frequency of washing their winter-wear, especially their scarf and gloves. And it is important to wash these items very often because they can be a home to a lot of germs.

Wearing gloves you touch a lot of things, the handles in the public transport, for example, and you can after that forget about it and touch your face with the same gloves. This is how you could get infected by some kind of disease.

The same goes for your scarf. It is very close to your mouth. You need to make sure you do not sneeze onto your scarf and not even cough on it. This is also another way to protect yourself from getting a disease. And do not forget to wash your gloves and scarves regularly.

#4 Drink plenty of liquids

It is no secret that hydration is good for your health and your beauty. One of the most often pieces of advice that doctors give to ill people is to drink a lot of liquids, especially teas and water in order to get rid of the bacteria in their body faster.

If you also want to protect yourself from getting bacteria as a whole, you also need to drink plenty of water. You could drink teas as well. This way you will help your body get rid of bad bacteria in it and it will also help keeping your nasal paths moisturized. If they are dry, it will be easier for the bacteria to get inside and to cause a runny nose.

Another thing that it is good to do in order to protect your nose from bacteria and germs, and not to deal with boogers later, is to use saltwater wash to cleanse your nasal paths. Rinse your nose, inside of it, with salt water once a day and you will not have to do with stuffy or runny nose during the winter.

#5 Have plenty of vitamins

You have probably heard it a thousand times, but this is because it is true – you need to take vitamins in order to have a healthy and strong body. This is very important, especially during the winter when all the bacteria, germs, and bugs and everywhere around us.

You need to have fresh fruits for breakfast. You can also have lemons or drink water with lemons because they contain a lot of vitamin C which is the main vitamin you need to healthy. You can also have vitamin tablets. This is a fast and easy way to provide your body with the vitamins it needs to stay healthy, especially during the winter.
