6 Foods to Avoid Eating in the Summer

 

A lot of people cannot wait for the summer to come not only because they want to have a vacation, but also because they eat less and thus lose weight due to the hot summer days. However, there are some kinds of foods that are better to avoid in the summer if you want to stay healthy and if you want to help the nature and the environment. In other words, it is best to eat seasonal fruits. They are naturally produced and are thus cheaper and more delicious. Check them out!

Citrus fruits
It sounds strange that any kind of fruits will not be recommended to be eaten in the summer, but in fact it is best to avoid citrus fruits. This is because they are winter fruits. They need cold weather to mature and grow and if they are produced in the summer, it is needless to say that they will not be that delicious if you buy them in the summer.
So, it is better to eat seasonal fruits, like watermelon which is quite delicious and it is very refreshing, because it is juicy. It is the perfect fruit for the summer. You could also eat cherries. They are very sweet and are another seasonal fruit you can eat fresh.

Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes are very healthy and it is great if you have included them in your daily diet, but when it comes to eating them in the summer, it is better to avoid it. This is because they are harvested in the fall and it is hardly likely to find fresh sweet potatoes in the summer. In the end of the fall, in the winter, and even in the beginning of the summer it is fine to eat sweat potatoes. However, if you see “fresh” sweet potatoes in the summer, you should better just avoid them.

Beef
Burgers in general should be avoided not only in the summer, but also throughout the year. In the summer, though, eating beef burgers is self-destroying. This is because they contain high amount of protein and, of course, fat which will really make it more difficult for your body to digest it in the summer. And not only this, but it will make you feel warmer. You can try it if you do not believe it, but I personally do not recommend it.
Food that is high in protein and fat are not very suitable for the summer and you can sense this right after your abundant meals. If you want to eat meat, then you could have chicken, because it does not contain so much fat. Green chicken salad is a good idea to have for lunch. It will satisfy your hunger without leaving you too full and uncomfortable.

Shellfish
It is somewhat hard to believe that you should not eat some kind of sea food in the summer, because most people visit some sea resorts where some of the most ordered food is seafood. It reminds you of summer and it makes your experience even more maritime. However, it is best to avoid eating shellfish. First of all, it is food that it is very hard to digest and it is high in calories.
And this is not the only reason to avoid it. If you do not eat shellfish during the summer, you will help protecting shellfish population. This is because they are spawning in the summer and their harvesting in the period can really reduce their population. So, you could help both the environment and yourselves if you avoid eating shellfish from May to the end of August.

Asparagus
Avoiding eating asparagus in the summer will probably not be a huge problem for a lot of people since it is not in the list of the foods that people adore. And still, it is a type of food that is very healthy and it contains a lot of vitamins and minerals.
If you want to take advantage of its healthy ingredients, you need to eat it in the spring and only then. This is because it is a spring vegetable and it is edible only then. You could also find some good asparagus in the early summer, but no later than June. So, just forget about it throughout the rest of the year.

Coffee and tea
Bad news to all people who are big fans of hot beverages – they should be avoided in the hot months of the year. And yes, even if you drink your coffee cold, or if you add ice to it, it is still not a good idea to drink it. This is because these drinks are diuretics – they make you go to the toilet much more often than normal. And in the summer, when people normally sweat too much because of the heat, drinking diuretics can lead to dehydration. So, if you cannot give up coffee for the summer, just make sure you drink enough water to compensate for the water loss in your body.
